It's time to start thinking about next year!

It is a little hard for me to believe that we have almost finished an entire semester. I mean, it is April 9th...school is out for the summer in May! I was talking to a friend of mine after dinner tonight and we were discussing the fact that it is time to start purchasing our curriculum for next year. I really need to research this. I mean, there is an ungodly amount of "stuff" out there to choose from. I am thinking, from what I have previewed, that the strength of any material comes from how we interact with it. If we use the material as a "jumping off" point for discussion then it will be a success.
A really neat thing happened today. I was talking with Abby about the start of the Roman Empire. I was reading to her about this one tribe that was north of Rome and how they were greatly influenced by the Greeks. I was explaining how the Romans didn't like monarchy, rather they wanted a democracy. I was not paying any attention to Ellie, who is 5, because she usually just sits and colors in a coloring book or practices writing numbers...etc. I asked, directing the question toward Abby, "What city in Greece felt very strong about democracy, voting and education?" Abby stared at me as if to say, "Get real. I have no idea what you just asked me." but Ellie said, "Athens!" I was so excited. It really goes to show that they are listening and that we do not need to "dumb it down".
As I said earlier today, my #3, L.G., will be starting preschool this week. I really feel like this is an answered prayer for our family. I think that this will be an orderly, structured time that she really needs. It goes to show that some kiddos need different opportunities. Our Early Childhood worker told us in one of our initial visits that she felt like our home was too unstructured during the day for L.G.. I can see now, and definitely agree with her, that it is. She will be 3 in the fall. It is really interesting...but I had to talk myself through this whole idea of putting her in this school. I truly want to do what's best for her and our family as a whole. I feel like we are moving in the right direction.

Tracey,

I am kind of into the book "Nurture by Nature." Do you have it? I think it is so fun to figure out our kids personalities! Like you, I need to provide more struture to Grace's day. (She is a ENFJ). It is really helpful, too, to explain some of the things about my kids that I just don't understand!
